International Azalea Festival, a salute to the military

The International NATO/Azalea Festival began in 1953, one year after the establishment of NATO's Allied Command Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia.

The mission of the International NATO/Azalea Festival is to recognize and celebrate the international influence of the NATO Command, which has transitioned to the Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and expands the region's international community, and what its 26 member nations brings to Hampton Roads. Every year, a different nation is honored. For 2009, it is the Czech Republic and all events staged celebrate the people, culture and industry of that nation.

The Virginia International Tattoo, the largest Tattoo in the United States, at the Norfolk Scope on Friday, May 1st. The Tattoo is presented with all the grandeur and splendor of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Over 850 performers join together with pageantry and patriotism, spirit and spectacle, talent and teamwork; it's precision personified. A slide show:
